DUCKS - GOATS - SHEEP - CHICKENS - BEES - PIGS - VEGETABLE GARDEN

DUCKS

Call Ducks and Black East Indian Ducks…  you might hear them when I let them out in the morning. They are endlessly amusing and they live in our private walled garden where they are protected from most predators.

We are looking forward to ducklings in the Spring of 2026.

GOATS

Our pygmy goats are friendly, if slightly wary. We have three boys called Amos, Little John and Victor. Then two girls called Lady Grey and Giddy.

Their main aim in life is to get into the main house and upstairs!

SHEEP

We have eight sheep named after characters from a series of books by Tove Jansson.

Snufkin, The Island Ghost, The Ancestor, Moomintroll, Joxter, Alice, Thingumy & Bob.

They are a mixture of Clun, Blacknose Valais and Shetland crosses.

CHICKENS

We have four Orpington chickens – Banana Legs, Tomato, Muesli and Lavender.

In May our hatching eggs  should have produced a lot more chicks of various varieties.

BEES

The bee hive is situated up in our vegetable garden and we only take off the excess honey for our own use. We make sure to leave the bees with plenty of their own honey to feed on.

James from South Street Honey cares for our bee hive.

PIGS – Not currently in residence

We have bred pigs for the past few years and absolutely love their personalities. It’s been a joy welcoming three litters of piglets. We are having a break from pigs for a few months whilst the ground recovers.

Our breeding sow – who lives elsewhere – is currently pregnant and due piglets in March so we might have a couple of new pigs in May 2026.

VEGETABLE GARDEN

We grow as much as we can for our own table and you’re welcome to pick some produce with us when it is in season.

We plant a lot of flowers for the bees. Sweet peas, nasturtiums, poppies and wild flowers.

We usually plant tomatoes, courgettes, garlic, spinach, onions, beetroot, broccoli, pumpkins, squashes, peas, beans, radishes, herbs, rhubarb, strawberries, cabbage, sweetcorn, cauliflower and probably some others!

I have no luck with cucumbers… maybe this will be my year…
