Combe Head House is family-run and situated in south Somerset, moments from the Devon and Dorset borders. There are two holiday cottages in the grounds and a spring-fed, Victorian swimming pond. We can cater for couples, groups or families.

The grounds are comprised of eight acres of woodland, lawns and fields. Our smallholding is home to animals that you are welcome to meet. You can book to have treatments on site or wellness ceremonies.

We can arrange for you to cook over fire in the woods yourselves or with our help, or arrange for a chef to cook for you outside or in your accommodation.

Meet the Family

Get to know the dedicated team behind Combe Head House.

Lara

Free Spirit

Lara grew up at Combe Head House, roaming the fields, climbing the ancient trees, and learning the rhythms of the land long before she knew she’d one day raise her own family here.

With a background in Art History and time spent working at Christie’s in London, she brings a thoughtful, creative eye to every corner of the estate — from the vegetable garden to the retreat experiences she curates.

Benedict

Chainsaw Addict

Benedict comes from a world of television production, with a career that once whisked him all over the world filming food and travel stories. Today, those same skills — curiosity, storytelling and a knack for bringing people together — shape the warm, generous atmosphere guests feel here.

Benedict is often found cooking over fire, shooting video, chopping up wood, or sharing tales with guests.

Luther

Animal Lover

Main man when it comes to discussing animals. Luther is the eldest of the boys — inquisitive, lively and endlessly outdoors.

Whether he’s helping collect eggs from the Orpington hens or racing his brother down the lawn, he embodies the freedom and play that make Combe Head House so special for families.

Abraham

aka Abe

Abraham brings the mischief – go to boy for a dance off, water fight or if you need a fire starting.

Gentle, funny, and vehicle-obsessed, he is usually found chopping wood, chasing Luther or attempting to “train” Dingo with varying degrees of success.

He loves showing young guests around the grounds.

Gilda

Matriarch

Granny Gilda is the gentle matriarch of Combe Head House — a quiet, steady presence whose tenderness extends from the flowerbeds to the kitchen. She tends her blooms with almost devotional care, and her puddings have become something of a family legend.

PCQC

Founding father

Though no longer with us, he remains the true founding father of Combe Head House. He bought the rambling, timeworn house in 1973 — a place with water running through the rooms and more decay than promise — and devoted his life to bringing it back from the brink.

He poured his energy into the grounds, planting trees and shaping the landscape with a naturalist’s instinct and a deep love for wildlife. The flourishing haven that surrounds the house today is his legacy: a living testament to his perseverance, vision, and quiet devotion to this place.

Lady Grey

The GOAT

Lady Grey, one of our much-loved pygmy goats, is as charming as she is cheeky. Known for her expressive bleats and her habit of appearing exactly where you least expect her, she brings a dash of mischief to the smallholding.

When she isn’t supervising from atop a log pile, she can be found nudging pockets for treats or teaching the other goats the fine art of escapology.

Endlessly curious and outrageously endearing, Lady Grey is a favourite among visiting children — and a daily source of laughter for us all.

Dingo

Top Dog

Dingo is the devoted four-legged shadow of Combe Head House — loyal, soft-eyed, and convinced that every guest arrives solely to see him.

He trots happily between house and fields, greeting newcomers with a lot of barking and then settling himself wherever the action is. Equally fond of children, sausages, and a ball, Dingo brings warmth and gentle companionship to daily life here.

Guests quickly discover what the family already knows: he’s impossible not to love.

Muesli

Garden Manager

Muesli the chicken takes her role as Garden Manager very seriously. From early-morning inspections of the vegetable beds to her methodical patrols beneath the fruit trees, she keeps a watchful eye on everything that grows. She can often be found scratching purposefully, rearranging mulch to her exacting standards, or supervising anyone who dares to plant without her approval.

You can meet her friends HERE.

Gilly

Wellness

Gilly is our lovely wellness provider. She offers massages, facials and ceremonies in your room or in the grounds. The menu can be viewed HERE.

Lawrence

Gardener

Lawrence keeps the lawns looking lovely and helps with the woodland maintenance

James

Bee Keeper

James runs South Street Honey and cares for our bees.

You can purchase sausages and bacon via us from our home-reared, rare-breed pigs
